Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 cups rolled oats (old-fashioned work best)
  • 1 ripe banana, mashed
  • 3 tablespoons natural peanut butter (xylitol-free)

Method

Making the Treats
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Pour the rolled oats into a food processor and pulse until they form a coarse flour consistency with some texture remaining, not a fine powder.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, thoroughly mash the ripe banana until smooth. Add the peanut butter and mix until completely combined.
  4. Gradually add the oat flour to your banana-peanut butter mixture. Stir with a wooden spoon until a thick, moldable dough forms. If too wet, add a tablespoon more ground oats.
  5. Roll the dough into small balls about the size of a walnut, then flatten them slightly on your prepared baking sheet. Space them about an inch apart.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes until the edges are lightly golden and the treats feel firm to touch. Let them cool completely on the baking sheet before serving.

Notes

Always use xylitol-free peanut butter as xylitol is toxic to dogs. Check labels carefully. Store in airtight container for up to one week at room temperature or freeze for up to three months. Serve 2-3 treats daily as training rewards. Can substitute sunflower seed butter for dogs with peanut allergies or mashed sweet potato for banana if dogs prefer savory flavors. Suitable for puppies over 12 weeks in smaller portions.
