Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup low-sodium beef broth
  • 1/2 cup cooked lean ground beef, drained
  • 1/2 cup steamed broccoli florets, finely chopped
  • 3 tablespoons unflavored gelatin powder
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil

Method

Making the Treats
  1. Sprinkle the unflavored gelatin powder over cold water in a small bowl and let it bloom for 5 minutes.
  2. Warm the beef broth in a small saucepan over medium heat until steaming but not boiling. Remove from heat and whisk in the bloomed gelatin mixture until completely dissolved.
  3. Stir the cooked ground beef and finely chopped steamed broccoli into the warm broth mixture. Add the olive oil and mix thoroughly to ensure even distribution.
  4. Pour the mixture into silicone molds or ice cube trays. Tap gently on the counter to remove air bubbles.
  5. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours until the treats are firm and hold their shape when gently pressed.
  6. Carefully remove the treats from molds and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.

Notes

Chill time required: 2 hours. Never use beef broth with onion or garlic as these are toxic to dogs. Don't boil the broth when adding gelatin as excessive heat breaks down setting properties. Store in refrigerator for up to one week or freeze for up to 3 months. Serve 1-2 treats per day for small dogs and 3-4 for larger breeds. Each treat contains approximately 15-20 calories.
