Ingredients

  • 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil (melted)
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder (optional, for anti-inflammatory benefits)

Method

  1. Pat chicken breasts completely dry with paper towels. Remove any visible fat or tendons. Slice the chicken against the grain into strips approximately ¼-inch thick for consistent thickness and even dehydration.
  2. Brush each chicken strip lightly with melted coconut oil. Sprinkle dried rosemary and turmeric evenly across the strips if desired for added antioxidants and flavor.
  3. Place chicken strips on dehydrator trays or parchment-lined baking sheets, ensuring pieces don't overlap for proper air circulation. If using an oven, set to lowest setting (typically 170°F or lower) and prop door slightly open.
  4. Dehydrate for 4-6 hours, checking every 2 hours and rotating trays if necessary. The jerky is ready when it bends without breaking and feels leathery to the touch with no moisture pockets.
  5. Allow treats to cool completely before handling. Test by bending - correctly dehydrated jerky will be pliable but not brittle. Return any moist pieces to dehydrator for another hour if needed.

Notes

Store in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to one week or freeze for up to three months. Break into smaller pieces for puppies and older dogs. Properly dried jerky should bend without breaking and feel leathery with no moisture pockets. Slice chicken consistently at ¼-inch thick for even dehydration. Can substitute with turkey, beef, or fish using the same method.
