Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 cups sweet potato, cooked and mashed
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 cup oat flour (or ground oats)

Method

Making the Treats
  1. Pierce sweet potato with a fork and microwave for 8-10 minutes until completely soft, or bake at 400°F for 45 minutes. Remove skin and mash until completely smooth.
  2. Crack egg into a small bowl and whisk thoroughly. Use room temperature eggs for easier incorporation.
  3. Preheat oven to 350°F. Combine mashed sweet potato and beaten egg in a large bowl, mixing until well incorporated.
  4. Gradually add oat flour, stirring constantly to prevent clumping. Add flour tablespoon by tablespoon if dough is too wet. Dough should hold together without being sticky.
  5. Roll dough to ¼-inch thickness on lightly floured surface. Cut into bite-sized shapes appropriate for your dog's size.
  6. Place treats on parchment-lined baking sheet, ensuring they don't touch.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes until edges are lightly golden and treats feel firm to touch. They should have slight give but not be soft or doughy in center.
  8. Cool completely before serving.

Notes

Cool completely before serving as hot treats can cause stomach upset. Store in airtight container for up to one week or freeze for up to three months. Serve 1-3 treats daily depending on dog's size. Always introduce new foods gradually. Wait until puppies are at least 12 weeks old. Consult veterinarian before trying if dog has multiple food allergies.
