Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup natural peanut butter (xylitol-free)
  • 1/4 cup plain flour (all-purpose or whole wheat)
  • 2-3 tablespoons water

Method

Making Pill Pockets
  1. Mix the peanut butter and flour in a medium bowl until well combined. The mixture should feel slightly sticky but manageable.
  2. Gradually add water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition. The dough should feel pliable like modeling clay.
  3. Pinch off grape-sized portions of dough and roll them into balls. Press your thumb into the center of each ball, creating a well deep enough for your dog's medication.
  4. Place the pill in the center well, then carefully pinch the edges together, sealing the medication completely inside. Roll gently between your palms to smooth the surface.
  5. Use immediately for best results, or store in the refrigerator for up to one week in an airtight container. For longer storage, freeze individual portions for up to three months.

Notes

Always use xylitol-free peanut butter as xylitol is toxic to dogs. Store in refrigerator for up to one week or freeze for up to three months. Don't store at room temperature for more than 24 hours. Avoid adding garlic or onion powder as these are harmful to dogs. Let frozen pockets thaw before giving to your dog.
