Instructions
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and clear your countertop. Gather all ingredients and a large mixing bowl.
- Combine the pumpkin puree and peanut butter in your mixing bowl. Stir vigorously until the mixture becomes smooth and uniform in color.
- Gradually fold in the oats, starting with one cup and mixing thoroughly before adding the remainder. The mixture should hold together when pressed but not feel overly wet. If it seems too sticky, add more oats one tablespoon at a time until you achieve the right consistency.
- Using your hands or a small cookie scoop, form the mixture into bite-sized balls roughly one inch in diameter. Roll each ball between your palms to create smooth, round treats. Place them on the prepared parchment paper, leaving small gaps between each treat.
- Refrigerate the pumpkin dog treats for at least 30 minutes until they firm up nicely. Once set, transfer them to an airtight container.
Notes
Use pure pumpkin puree, not pumpkin pie filling. Always check peanut butter labels for xylitol, which is toxic to dogs. Store in refrigerator for up to one week. Can be frozen for up to three months. Serve 1-2 treats daily for small dogs, 3-4 for larger breeds. Each treat contains approximately 25 calories. Can be substituted with sunflower seed butter for dogs with peanut allergies or ground rice for grain-sensitive dogs.
