Refreshing frozen treats for dogs combining natural watermelon sweetness with creamy coconut milk to help keep pets cool during hot summer days
Prep Time 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh watermelon, seeds removed and cubed
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened coconut milk (canned, full-fat)
  • 1 tablespoon raw honey (optional)

Method

  1. Remove all seeds from the watermelon cubes and give them a gentle rinse. Seeds can cause digestive upset for dogs, so double-check each piece.
  2. Add watermelon cubes, coconut milk, and honey (if using) to your blender or food processor. Blend until completely smooth, about 45-60 seconds.
  3. Pour the mixture into ice cube trays, silicone molds, or small paper cups. Leave about 1/4 inch of space at the top since the mixture will expand slightly when frozen.
  4. For traditional popsicle shapes, insert wooden popsicle sticks after 30 minutes of initial freezing (optional).
  5. Allow popsicles to freeze for at least 4-6 hours or overnight until completely solid.

Notes

Store in freezer bags for up to 3 months. Remove 2-3 minutes before serving to prevent treats from being too hard on dog's teeth. Omit honey for puppies under 12 months. Remove all watermelon seeds as they can cause digestive upset. Never use coconut milk with added sugars or artificial sweeteners, especially xylitol which is toxic to dogs. Introduce gradually for dogs with sensitive stomachs. Can substitute coconut milk with plain Greek yogurt, water, or unsweetened bone broth if needed.
